BTEC Sport Curriculum 22/23- Year 11

 

At Purbrook Park we also deliver the BTEC Sport Level 2 in Sport. The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Sport qualification is designed to help learners understand the skills and knowledge needed to work in the sector, which they’ll be encouraged to demonstrate through participation in a wide range of sport and active leisure activities.

This course provides an engaging and relevant introduction to the world of sport. It incorporates important aspects of the industry, such as fitness testing and training for sport and exercise, the psychology of sport, practical sports performance and sports leadership. It enables you to develop and apply your knowledge, while also developing a range of relevant practical, communication and technical skills.

The qualification is 120 GLH, which is the same size and level as a GCSE, is aimed at everyone who wants to find out more about the sport industry. You will study three mandatory units, covering the underpinning knowledge and skills required for the sports sector:

  • fitness for sport and exercise
  • practical performance in sport
  • applying the principles of personal training.
  • leading sports activities.

KS4 Year 11

Autumn

Pupils will prepare for and then complete the following coursework based assignments. These will be in a variety of formats and have strict deadlines.

Assignments:

  • Plan a 6 weeks training programme
  • Complete a 6 week training programme maintaining a training diary
  • Describe the structure and short term effects on the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems.

Spring

Pupils will prepare for and then complete the following coursework based assignments. These will be in a variety of formats and have strict deadlines.

Assignments:

  • Evaluate the 6 week training programme
  • Describe the structure and short term effects on the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems.

Summer

Pupils will prepare for and then complete the following coursework based assignments. These will be in a variety of formats and have strict deadlines.

Assignments:

  • Be formally assessed in two sports for Unit 2 Practical Sport
