Textiles Curriculum 2024/25

KS3 Year 7

Autumn

Design Brief  - Textile piece based around myself

Pupils will have their own sketchbook to independently record their ideas and vision in. Pupils are

encouraged to build a repertoire of skills and practical knowledge in a confident and creative way.

Spring

 Pupils work on a rotation through Food, Textiles and 3D Design therefore this will be repeated each

term

Summer

 Pupils work on a rotation through Food, Textiles and 3D Design therefore this will be repeated each

KS3 Year 8

Autumn

Design Brief - Inside the human body

Design Brief – Textures of the body

Pupils will have their own sketchbook to independently record their ideas and vision in. Pupils are

encouraged to build a repertoire of skills and practical knowledge in a confident and creative way,

developing their skill set from Year 7.

Spring

 Pupils work on a rotation through Food, Textiles and 3D Design therefore this will be repeated each

term

KS4 Year 9

Autumn

Rotation– WHOLE DEPARTMENT

Pupils will gain knowledge and skills through each specialism

Spring

AMQ Project

All sampling and sketchbook work will link to the Alexander Mc Queen Savage Beauty collection.  

Course content – How to present a sketchbook and how to mount work in preparation for GCSE.

Pupils will explore a range of techniques in the following categories.

Sampling

Printing

Decorative techniques

Construction techniques

Drawing techniques

Evidence of a completed page per sample. Pupils should evidence the skill and reflect on the end

result.

 MOCK ASSESSMENT – WHOLE DEPARTMENT

Pupils will put together a mock portfolio based around a set  or chosen brief. This will compile all 4

assessment objectives and be moderated across the department.

Final aim – Combine a range of decorative and constructive techniques to create a final sample. AO4

Summer

 Final piece

Pupils will put together a final piece of a Bralette or own choice of garment. This can either link to the AMQ project or the Mock portfolio. 

KS4 Year 10

Autumn & Spring

Mini Project

A selection of further work resulting from activities such as trials and experiments; skills based workshops;mini and or 

foundation projects;responses to gallery, museum or site visits; work placements; independent study and

evidence of group work. 

Project 1

The pupils' chosen theme  will encourage them to look at their checklist in detail to create a personal

and meaningful response. Pupils should gain understanding into their chosen brief by research,

specific artists/designers/sculptors, sketchbook layout and construction.

Pupils must work to a strict deadline and all work will be marked and finalised as a department.

Complete a selection of work, Pupils will carry out a range of techniques forming a final portfolio.

Pupils will be given the opportunity to pick their own theme

KS4 Year 11

Autumn

 Completion of Component 1

 A portfolio that shows explicit coverage of the four assessment objectives. The portfolio must evidence

the journey from initial engagement to the realisation of intentions and a selection of further work

undertaken during the pupil’s course of study.

AO1 AO2 AO3 AO4

Pupils will continuously work on sketchbooks and develop outcomes while acting on feedback given

by Teachers. All pupils to utilise sessions provided within the Department to improve and finalise

individual outcomes by December.
