Year 10

Mr Gissing Year Leader
Mrs Robson Assistant Year Leader

Year 10 is a pivotal year in a pupil's journey at Purbrook Park. As their last full academic year before Year 11, it is a time to focus, grow and begin preparing for the important milestones that lie ahead.

Throughout the year, pupils will continue their GCSE courses and will be encouraged to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to achieve their potential. Year 10 is an opportunity to establish effective routines and approaches to learning that will support pupils not only this year, but as they move into Year 11 and prepare for their final examinations.

We also recognise that this stage of education can bring new challenges. Resilience will be an important focus for our Year 10 pupils. Learning how to respond positively to setbacks, manage pressure and persevere when things become difficult are valuable skills both inside and outside the classroom. Our pastoral team will be on hand to provide guidance and support, helping pupils to navigate the demands of the year and develop confidence in their own abilities.

An exciting part of Year 10 will be the opportunity to take part in work experience. This gives pupils the chance to step beyond the classroom, experience a professional environment and begin exploring the possibilities available to them in the future. We hope this experience will help pupils develop important skills, build confidence and start thinking about their ambitions beyond school.

As pupils move through Year 10, we will encourage them to become increasingly independent and take ownership of their education. Good attendance, punctuality, preparation and a positive approach to learning will be essential in making the most of the opportunities available to them.

Year 10 also brings exciting opportunities for pupils to take on positions of responsibility within the school. Pupils will have the chance to apply for prefectship, as well as the roles of Head Boy and Head Girl. These positions offer pupils the opportunity to develop their leadership and communication skills, represent the school community and make a positive difference to the lives of others.

While GCSEs will naturally become an increasing focus, Year 10 should also be a year of personal development and new experiences. We want pupils to challenge themselves, get involved in the wider life of the school and continue to develop into confident, resilient and responsible young people.

The Year 10 pastoral team is committed to supporting pupils and their families throughout the year. We value strong relationships between home and school and will work closely with parents and carers to ensure that every pupil has the support they need.

We are looking forward to an exciting and productive year and to supporting our Year 10 pupils as they make the most of their final full academic year before embarking on Year 11 and the next stage of their journey.
