Pastoral Care and Year Groups

At Purbrook Park School, we believe that pupils achieve their best when they feel known, supported and part of a strong community. Our pastoral system is designed to provide consistency throughout a pupil’s five-year journey with us.

Each year group has a dedicated Year Leader, supported by a non-teaching Assistant Year Leader. Together, they have oversight of the pupils within their year group, providing day-to-day pastoral support, celebrating successes and working closely with pupils and families when additional help is needed.

Every pupil is also part of a tutor group, led by a dedicated Form Tutor. Wherever possible, our tutors remain with their tutor group from Year 7 through to Year 11. This means that pupils have a familiar adult who gets to know them well, understands their individual strengths and needs, and can support them throughout their time at Purbrook Park.

Our Year Leaders, Assistant Year Leaders and tutors work together as a team. They monitor pupils’ wellbeing, attendance, behaviour and engagement with school, while also recognising achievements and encouraging pupils to make the most of every opportunity available to them.

Strong relationships with parents and carers are an important part of our approach. We encourage regular communication between home and school and aim to address concerns early, working in partnership to provide the right support for each pupil.

Moving through secondary school brings different challenges and opportunities at every stage. From settling into Year 7, through choosing GCSE options and ultimately preparing for examinations and life beyond Purbrook Park in Year 11, our pastoral team is there to provide continuity, guidance and support.

Our aim is simple: for every pupil to feel that they belong, are valued and have someone they can turn to throughout their five years at Purbrook Park School.
