Purbrook Park School Ski Trip - Hochfügen, Zillertal, Austria - February 2026
Over the February half term, pupils from Year 10 and 11 embarked on an unforgettable ski adventure to Hochfügen, located in the stunning Zillertal region of Austria. Despite a very early departure, excitement was high as we flew from London Stansted to Nuremberg before making our way to the mountains, ready for a week of snow-filled fun.
We stayed at the fantastic Alpin Centre in Hochfügen, perfectly positioned in the heart of the resort with direct access to the slopes. From the very first morning, pupils were eager to get started and they certainly made the most of every moment. Over the six days of skiing, pupils received five hours of professional instruction each day. Conditions were tough at times with the visibility being very restricted due to heavy snow fall. It snowed every single day, providing fresh powder and truly magical alpine scenery. Whether complete beginners or more experienced skiers, every pupil made outstanding progress throughout the week. Confidence grew daily, techniques improved rapidly, and by the end of the trip, many were skiing runs they feared at the start of the week.
One of the highlights of the week was attending the weekly Hochfügen Festival on Thursday evening. Pupils enjoyed watching the spectacular skiing light show, a dazzling display of illuminated descents and mountain entertainment that added an extra touch of magic to an already incredible trip. Beyond the skiing, the week was filled with laughter, teamwork, resilience, and unforgettable memories. It was fantastic to see friendships strengthen and new ones formed, all against the breathtaking backdrop of the Austrian Alps.
The impact of the trip has already been clear — many pupils are now enthusiastically talking about booking their own ski holidays in the future. A huge thank you to all the pupils for their brilliant attitude, resilience, determination, and excellent representation of Purbrook Park School throughout the trip. Finally, sincere thanks go to the dedicated staff who generously gave up their half term to make this experience possible. It truly was an amazing week that will be remembered for years to come.
