Art, Design & Technology

Welcome to the Art, Design, Technology and Photography Department

Within our department at Purbrook Park we aim to inspire and encourage pupils to push the boundaries and develop a sense of their own identity. They are given the chance to learn how to work with a range of materials and techniques so that they develop confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. We encourage all pupils to take creative risks and challenges within all aspects of research, design, experimenting and making. We allow pupils the creative freedom to become independent practitioners, motivated and resilient; all key transferable skills to have in any industry.

We have a range of specialist equipment and facilities, enabling pupils to learn a variety of techniques and processes such as over lockers sewing and embellishing machines, as well as a sublimation press and printer. We also have a photographic darkroom dedicated to black and white processing and printing and our own kiln for specialist clay work . Other facilities available to pupils include laser cutting, printmaking, 3D modelling, digital photography and image manipulation.

We offer a variety of challenging and demanding specialisms across our department, where pupils are required to think independently and develop their ideas in a personal and responsive way. We set extremely high standards for all our pupils according to individual ability. Art, Design, Technology and Photography are highly enjoyable and rewarding subject areas where pupils are encouraged to take pride in all aspects of their work.
