  Curriculum » ICT
 
ICT plays an important role accross the curriculum at Purbrook Park, at Keystage 3 pupils are given a solid foundation in ICT in areas such as web design, modelling using spreadsheets, database design, control and monitoring and multimedia.

At Keystage 4 pupils are offered a choice of GCSE courses to expand upon the skills learned in keystage 3 and in 2006 will be able to follow the Dida digital diploma which incorporates exciting IT technologies such as digital audio, imaging and animation.

Department Aims:
To develop ICT skills, enabling all pupils to feel confident using ICT to enhance learning accross the curriculum.
To equip our young people with the ICT skills to achieve their potential whilst in our care and also for their future education and career goals. To promote a safe, fun and motivational learning environment for all pupils.

IT Facilities

Hardware
Purbrook Park School hosts two dedicated ICT classrooms as well as many other networked classrooms in other departments. The network boasts a downtime of 0.05% and is rigorously maintained to industry standards. The MFL department also boasts a brand new multimedia suite hosting 30 computers.

Software
The ICT department Currently runs microsoft Windows 2003 server across 200 workstations running Microsoft Windows XP and 2003. Installed on all the ICT department's workstions are many industry standard software solutions such as:

Microsoft Office Suite.
Access.
Excell.
Word.
Powerpoint.
Visio.
Macromedia Studio MX: - Dreamweaver MX - Fireworks - Flash - Freehand
Apple Quicktime.
Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Learning ICT

All pupils have their own user accounts in which to store their work and must sign an agreement to abide by the schools computer policy. All internet accounts are filtered to prevent access to unsuitable material and sites encouraging positive use of computer time.

At Keystage 3 pupils are timetabled for 1 lesson per week of ICT. The course of study follows the national curriculum. Pupils are also encouraged to use ICT skills accross the curriculum and is a popular teaching aid in areas such as Mathematics, Science and English.

At Keystage 4 the experience of the teaching staff often enables pupils to learn to a far higher ability than is normally required at GCSE level, for instance in areas such as network technology and programming, giving an exemplary footing for further education and experience for the workplace.

Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is a system designed to support teaching and learning in an educational setting. A VLE provides a collection of tools such as those for assessment, communication, uploading of content, return of students' work, peer assessment, administration of student groups, collecting and organizing student grades, questionnaires, tracking tools, etc.
