History at Purbrook Park
At Purbrook we tackle History very differently from many other schools. We adopt a thematic approach rather than study chronological stand-alone units. This is an approach recommended by the best historians in the country for gaining an excellent overview of British History and a greater understanding of the nature of progress, continuity or regress.
Year 7 will find themselves studying Work and Leisure Through Time and Crime and Punishment
Year 8 will study Crime and Punishment, Technology and Change and Power and Protest.
Year 9 will study Peace and War and Contrasting Culture: The Native Americans
At GCSE we offer two different GCSE courses. Both gain the same History GCSE qualification but with different boards and cover different topics.
The SHP course Includes The American West, Castles and Medicine Through Time.
The Modern World Course Includes 20th Century International Relations, Germany 1919-1945, America 1900-1945.
History as a qualification is recommended for those wishing to go on to many professions. It is especially useful for Law, Media, Publishing, Politics, Research, Journalism and of course for History Teaching!
