  Curriculum » Expressive Arts

The Expressive Arts Department believes that links with the community are very important, both for the individual student and the school as a whole.

The department will take every opportunity to forge links with local industry, businesses and the community, allowing the work of the students to be exhibited and performed for the wider community to see.

This will not only allow the public to see what a wealth of talent we have at Purbrook, but also show our students and their parents that their work is valued enough within the department for it to be celebrated with the rest of the community.

Expressive Arts Dance department activities for this year have included a residential trip to London to the Pineapple dance studios working with professional performers from Grease and Mama Mia, and successful entry into the Premier League of the Rock challenge dealing with issues of the Mumbai massacre.  Rock challenge was put together entirely out of school and dance runs a variety of after school clubs.

The Expressive Arts art department has had an artist in residence, Philip Cox who made large cardboard figures with a group of pupils who have since passed on their expertise, and has run successful trips to Goodwood Sculpture Park and London galleries.

The Expressive Arts Drama department has taken part in competitions and has run successful trips to London and local theatres to see West End productions.  There is a very popular drama club running after school and Drama has a very popular uptake at GCSE.

Expressive Arts Music has had visits from professional musicians and has numerous clubs and bands that pupils can join, as well as many peripatetic teachers who teach specific instruments.
