Modern Foreign Languages

Mrs T Robbins Lead Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages
Miss I Bapué-Motto Teacher of Spanish

Welcome to the Languages Department at PPS where equality, inclusivity, diversity and mutual respect are actively promoted. Our curriculum provides pupils with broad knowledge, understanding and effective language skills to enable them to read, listen to and understand, write and speak in another language. Our curriculum explores cultures and perspectives, within and outside the classroom, on a personal, local, national and global level.

Lessons are balanced between the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking over 3 lessons in KS3 and 4 lessons in KS4 across a two-week timetable. Pupils are taught in mixed-ability groups and teachers promote a life-long love of language learning based on a curriculum that promotes an interest in other cultures and languages. All pupils study either French or Spanish in KS3. Dual linguist opportunities are provided for our most determined linguists where both languages are studied in KS3. Languages remain optional at GCSE level and pupils opt in Y8 and can choose either French or Spanish to study at GCSE or indeed both.
